Prayers for New Born Baby in Islam is very important as reported by the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH). And we are going to discuss some of the prayers as seen in the Holy Quran and Hadith.

Before a man thinks of marriage, Muslims have always engaged in prayers for their unborn generations.
Prophet Ibrahim (Alay salatuh wa salaam) was reported to pray for his unborn child.

He usually recite: “Robanna ablanaa min Azwajina wa dhurriyatina Qurrata A’yunin Wa Ajalna lil muttaqina imama.” Meaning: O our Lord! Grant us in our wives and our offspring the joy of our eyes and make us guides to those who guard (against evil). (Q 25 v 74.)

Surah Alfurqan

Also in Quran 14 verse 40: Rabbi ajalni Muqima AsSalaati wa min Dhurriyati Rabbana wa Taqabbal Du’a.“ Which means “My Lord! Make me keep up prayer and from my offspring (too), O our Lord, and accept my supplication.”

When a child is born into an Islamic family, even before his arrival, prayers from parents especially the mother include “thumma sabila yansarau” for Allah to make delivery easy for both mother and child. Moreover, it is beneficial for the mother to recite the Quran during pregnancy constantly. It is believed that as the child is inside the womb. He or she is listening to the recitation, and this enhances his closeness to Allah throughout his lifetime.

On the day of birth, the following prayers are advised by the Holy Prophet (SAW). “ Allahumma Authuqumma bih kalimatullah thana min qulli shaytooni wahama waminkulli aini kamma.” Oh, Allah! Protect this child from the ways of Shayton and let him follow Your guidance.”

When the child is born, without any delay, it is advised by the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) to call the Adhan in his right ear so that the first thing he hears in this world will be Tawheed which will have a great and blessed effect on the child and the Iqamah in his left ear. It is believed that whenever the child hears the Adhan or Iqamah, he will hearken to it.

During the life of the prophet as reported by Aisha (May Allah be pleased with her): people used to bring their newly born babies to the messenger of Allah(Peace be upon him), and he would supplicate for them and do Tahneek (Rubbing the baby’s palates with chewed or softened dates). It is worthy of note that many scholars had said that Tahneek was the habit of the Arabs. Even before Islam came into existence, and anyone can do it for their child. Allah knows best

The Holy Prophet (SAW) used to seek Allah’s protection for Hassan and Husayn by saying “ U’eethu kumma bikalimaatil laahit – taama ti min kulli shaytaanin wa haammaatin, wa min kulli aynin laamatin.” Which can be translated as “ I seek protection for you in the perfect words of Allah from every devil and every beast and from every envious blameworthy eye – Referenced by Al Bukhari 4/119.

Dua for New Born Baby Boy in Islam

Islam is the religion with teachings in all aspect of human endearvours. There are duas for newborn from parents which include the ones to make him righteous both in Duniya and Akhir.

It is permissible to name the boy on the first day or on the seventh day. Anas ibn Maalik reported it said the Messenger of Allah (Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “A boy was born unto me this night and I have named him with the name of my father “Ibraheem” (Narrated by Muslim, 3126).

The mother is urged to always make dua for him and teach him to make supplication for himself and the parents even before they are dead. Duas of protection from evil eye includes Allahumma finneehim bima shi’ta. Meaning Oh Allah, curb them as you wish.

Aqeeqah and circumcision are essential for a baby boy. It was reported by Salmaan ibn Aamir (May Allah be pleased with him) that the prophet (Peace and blessing of Allah be upon him) said “ For the boy there should be an aqeeqah. Slaughter (an animal) for him and remove the harmful thing (i.e like the foreskin) from the animal. (Narrated by al- Tirmidhi, 1515, al Nasaai, 4214; Abu Dawood, 2839; ibn Maajah, 3164 )

Among the benefit of aqeeqah is the gathering of the relatives and friends for the Waleemah (Feast)

Circumcision is part of Sunan –al – Fitrah (practices related to the pure and natural inclination of man). It is obligatory to circumcise the baby boy. This is important because it is connected to matters of purity which are essential condition for dua.

Besides, shaving the boy’s head then anointing he child’s head with saffron is very beneficial. We ask Allah, to protect us and our children, from all evil to keep them safe and sound in this world and hereafter.

Duas are particularly important in the life of every human being. As we have those that can be prayed on daily basis to shape and guide the life of the new born baby till the day he leaves this world.
